Here’s a sample of my work, including Shape of the World, Visual Effects on Gears 5, VFX Look Development, Illustrations, and Video Production.

Shape of the World

A serene, first-person exploration game I developed over four years of my spare time. I created concepts, built and directed art content, engineered animation and interactivity, and directed the sound and music.

This teaser is simply a few moments from gameplay, and gives you a feeling for what it’s like to journey through this surreal and relaxing world.

While raising funding for the game on Kickstarter, I created a little “Meet the Artist” monologue. It gives you an idea as to why I made a game about getting lost.

A collaboration with a musician

I worked with Brent Silk to design a soundtrack that fit and enhanced the world of Shape of the World. Brent joined the team at the very beginning to create numerous musical studies which we could discuss and evolve. As the game took shape, we were in alignment on the target sound, and Brent started composing the music. We then started breaking the music down into many blocks and moments which would compliment the player’s journey, so the mix would evolve in real-time as the player moved forward.

Visual Effects Lead on Gears 5

Here’s a look at some of the great work by members of the Gears 5 VFX team. It was my role to ensure that our team delivered all that the Art Director asked for and more, at the highest quality possible. In the beginning I created prototypes and concepts for an exciting, dynamic world. During production, I grew the team to 18 people and built a culture of focus, excitement and ownership. Beyond the in-house team, I coordinated the visual effects work of our co-developer studios around the world.

These are show reels from some of the VFX artists on the Gears 5 team. With ownership over their projects and guidance from me, they can each be proud of their beautiful and technically-advanced projects.

Visual Effects Look Development

On Space Marine I produced numerous paintings to get alignment on the style and visual language in the visual effects. I then put the concepts to the test by constructing the bulk of the effects in the game.

Illustrations

Over the years I’ve enjoyed sketching creatures I call Mimals and the diverse world they inhabit.

Video Production

I enjoy the process of filming, editing, and connecting moving images to music.
