I'll always be an artist, but I like to adapt my role to each project. I have been a graphic designer, user interface artist and effects artist, and each role has informed the others. Until I hone in on the perfect job, I'm going to keep experimenting and learning.
VFX Artist at The Coalition (formerly Black Tusk Studios)
Using state-of-the-art technology, we're bringing a new level of cinematic quality to video games at Black Tusk. We showed a tech demo at E3 2013 and recently announced that we're the new home of Gears of War.

VFX Artist on Space Marine
I have been having a blast making the Warhammer 40,000 universe feel explosive and atmospheric in Space Marine, an action game coming out this year. As the sole effects artist on the team, I concepted and built all the weapon fire, including futuristic ballistics, fantasy plasma and over-the-top explosions. It's an effects-heavy game, with physically believable liquid, (dismembered Orks gushing with blood) steamy sewer systems and epic orbital battles.
User Interface Artist on Dawn of War 2
Dawn of War 2's UI was built entirely with Flash. It was pleasingly challenging to build an easy-to-use and fun interface for the real-time strategy game that is fused with RPG elements. All of Relic's games push the RTS genre, so I chose to abandon the traditional Starcraft-style HUD for something lighter weight and more scalable. A lot of my work shines when the player equips his squads and reviews his missions on the Bridge, an orbit-view console that is rich with features but never confusing.
Truly one of my favorite experiences in life was learning how to model, texture, light and composite in 3D. Four months to learn the tools and four months to create a reel. Eight months of hardcore focus, then you feel great!
